Hiding
All races have a form of hiding and methods for finding hidden players. The effectiveness of hiding is influenced by the surrounding lighting conditions: when the lights are on, you are easier to find; when they are off, you are harder to detect. You are able to perform certain actions while hidden, such as searching and inventory management.
Red and Green Spores prevent hiding. Green Spores also interfere with special sensory skills. Certain map tiles may not allow hiding by Humans or Vampires.
See the Skills page for descriptions of the skills mentioned below related to hiding or finding.
Humans
Humans require the Hiding skill. They can only hide indoors. It may take several tries to successfully hide.
Being inside a barricaded building at level "heavy" or above will prevent detection from outside the building by a Vampire's Supernatural Senses skill. Keeping HP at high levels will prevent tracking by a Zombie's Smell Blood skill.
Vampires
Vampires require the Rafter Hang skill. Unnatural Darkness makes them harder to find with the lights on. They can only hide indoors. It may take several tries to successfully hide.
Keeping HP at high levels will prevent tracking by a Zombie's Smell Blood skill. A Zombie's ability to find a Vampire does not currently interact with the Identify Life skill. The ease of which Zombies and Humans can find a Vampire depends mostly on light and HP level.
Zombies
Zombies do not hide in the traditional manner. They use the skill Drop Dead to appear visibly as a corpse on that tile. They can do this indoors or outdoors. Assuming there are no Spores, dropping dead always succeeds.
If another player hits them with an attack or attempts to revive them, they will automatically stand up (being a visible Zombie again). If a human player uses the Dump action, they can move the Zombie player from indoors to outdoors without breaking their cover. If another Zombie player tries to use the Feed on Corpses action on their body, the other Zombie player will be "suddenly repelled by the strong smell of chemicals".
